While it’s fun and convenient to travel in your RV to visit family or explore the Pacific Northwest, one of the more challenging aspects of using an RV is cooking in it. RV kitchens tend to be on the smaller side and it can become hot and cramped while cooking, which may lead you to pick up fast food more often than you should. But cooking in your RV is a cinch when you follow these tips!
1. Use a Slow Cooker
This underrated cooking tool cuts the preparation time by more than half because of how it uses heat to prepare your meal over several hours. Fill up your slow cooker with vegetables and cuts of meat in the morning, add some broth or water, then put the lid on and set it to the desired temperature while you go out and explore. Return home in the evening to a hot meal with no effort!
2. Grill Outside
If you don’t enjoy cooking on the stove, pack a portable grill to set up outside of your camper or use the fire pit for cooking. You can prepare lots of cuts of meat or even vegetable kebabs this way. Burgers and hot dogs are a perennial favorite for campers.
3. Prepare Cold Meals
Finally, one great strategy to avoid having to turn on the stove or oven is to fix meals that don’t need to be heated up, or meals that only require the use of a microwave. Use leftover meats from the grill to fix sandwiches or add them to a tossed salad or a pasta salad. Create granola and fresh fruit parfaits with yogurt for breakfast. Fix a platter of nachos and slide it into the microwave to melt the cheese. The possibilities are endless!
